Natural Capital & Infrastructure Community of Practice Launch

22/Feb/2024 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Natural Capital & Infrastructure (NC&I) Community of Practice

The topic

Team Defence has defined this in a Defence enterprise perspective as looking and focusing on Natural capital, which is the world’s stock of natural resources, which includes geology, soils, air, water, and all living organisms. Some natural capital assets provide people with free goods and services, often called ecosystem services and Infrastructure – the basic physical and organisational structures and facilities (e.g. buildings, roads, power supplies) needed for the operation of a society or enterprise.

How we operate

  1. Our community of practice (CoP) is a group of people who share a common concern, a set of problems, or an interest in a topic and who come together to fulfil both individual and group goals.
  2. Communities of practice often focus on sharing best practices and creating new knowledge to advance a domain of professional practice. Interaction on an ongoing basis is an important part of this.
  3. Our community of practice relies on face-to-face meetings as well as web-based collaborative environments to communicate, connect and conduct community activities.

Why get involved?

Your contribution will enable you to understand the direction of travel from within Defence, shape, influence and assist MOD in its future direction for Natural Capital & Infrastructure. There is also a connection to work as part of a team with equally capable and knowledgeable organisations within Defence and the wider digital community. This is an opportunity for wider industry experience and best practice to be showcased within the Defence environment.

This will enable:

  1. Understanding of how focus areas will interact to realise a future end state.
  2. Articulation of requirements for capability across the enterprise
  3. Development of capability roadmaps
  4. Alignment, pull through and learning from representative capabilities.

Assessment of potential solutions and recommendations for future development
