March is an extremely busy month in the TD-Info calendar with many events and Working Group meetings planned. TD-Info Members are invited to participate in the seminars on “Post-COVID Future Workplace Technology” that we are hosting with MOD Defence Digital commencing 11 March; further details below.

SupportNET21 - Event Postponed Until 18 May

Unfortunately, due to the rescheduling of key policy announcements and the impending pre-election period, the SupportNET21 event planned for 23 March has been rescheduled. It will now take place on 18 May 21 and remain as a virtual event. All current registrations for the event will remain valid and updated information will be promulgated through the event portal, which remains open for new registrations. A number of notable events are coming up in the next few months:

Post-COVID Future Workplace Technology Seminars

TD-Info is pleased to be supporting MOD Defence Digital in looking at how technology might enable new ways of working in a post COVID world. We will be hosting a series of seminars to explore this topic throughout March; the first seminar on 11 March will include a presentation by Ben Parish, MOD Defence Digital Head of Innovation, offering three points of view each followed by a Q&A session. Further seminars are planned with presentations from Roll-Royce, IBM, Microsoft, Fujitsu, Leonardo, DXC and the Team Defence Vanguard. Ben Parish will return at the end of the series to draw together the lessons learned.

Team Defence Information AGM – Change of Date to 22 June

The TD-Info Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been postponed from 17 March and will now be held on 22 June. The next TD-Info Council Meeting will proceed as planned on 17 March. For further details please contact Will Tuohy.

ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English (STE) Training Courses - 10 to 13 May

The STE training courses have successfully moved online and the next 4-day course is being held on 10-13 May from 09:00 - 12:30 (GMT) daily. Previous attendees say that they like:

  1. Applying STE to their own documents to get feedback from the facilitator and each other
  2. Attending 4 half-day sessions to give time to reflect and stay up-to-date with work
  3. Being fully engaged and actively sharing ideas and opinions
  4. Getting practical tips to help them to realize the value of STE

Each course has a maximum of 6 attendees to guarantee opportunities to fully interact and to have individual feedback from the facilitator. To find out more or to register for the training please, email Ciaran Dodd.

Supply Chain Study Day – 15 March

The TD-Info Supply Chain Study Group (SCSG) will be conducting a number of study days with industry supply chain providers and specialists to challenge traditional thinking and help Dir Joint Support to shape the future of Defence Support. The first Study Day on 15 March discusses the question: “The MOD will prioritise the mapping of supply chains to the ensure the possible impacts on delivery of its outputs are minimised, what can industry do to help?” For further information please contact Gavin Emmerson.

Defence Information 2021 (DI21) Virtual Event - 16 to 17 June

Book a slot in your diary for DI21 which is jointly organised by MOD Defence Digital and Team Defence Information. DI21 provides a highly informative forum for the ‘Team Defence’ community to discuss MOD strategic initiatives, exchange information, and become engaged in collaborative MOD/Industry Working Groups. Charlie Forte, MOD CIO, will join other senior MOD and Industry keynote speakers in discussing this year’s theme “Exploiting the Defence Digital Backbone”.

This year DI21 will be a virtual online event and is kindly being sponsored by Fujitsu. Registration will open shortly; for more details please contact Steve Shepherd.

MindFuel for Aerospace and Defence

Phil Williams, MD of TD-Info, recently participated in MindFuel which is a a series of online sessions, hosted by IFS, that bring together industry thought leaders to share opinions, advice and examples that can be applied to today’s business reality. The subject for the discussion was ‘Answering the Digital Transformation Bell’. The discussion forms part of the IFS Cloud Launch on 10-11 March available to register here.

Launch of the MOD Defence Sourcing Portal

Members of the Trading Forum will be aware of the development of the new MOD Defence Sourcing Portal (DSP). On 17 Feb, Andrew Forzani, MOD Chief Commercial Officer, announced that the DSP successfully went live and is now the MOD’s strategic platform for advertising new opportunities, conducting prequalification, tendering and subsequently the evaluation of tender submissions.

The latest Trading Forum held on 2 March gathered positive feedback on the early stages of DSP which has been well received so far. Organizations must register for the DSP portal here in order to browse the homepage and view new opportunities. For further information on the Trading Forum please contact Andy Whatman.

Warehouse Distribution Optimisation (WDO)

Project Brig Lee Daley recently gave an update to industry on the LDOC WDO Project. Head of Capability (HoC) for DefSp INFORM Industry Briefing

Recent organisational and governance changes in UK Strategic Command (UKStratCom) has provided the opportunity for Defence Support to be managed as a capability under the Head of Capability (HoC) for Defence Support (DefSp).

Lt Col Chris Eyre recently gave a briefing about the new branch, plans for the INFORM capability and how the TD-Info Defence Continuity Executive (DCE) will corral industry engagement in this area. For further details please contact Tim King.

Publications and Podcasts

Def Stan 00-600 Awareness

TD-Info recently held a Def Stan 00-600 Awareness Course to introduce the recent changes made to Part 1 which incorporates improvements in the Technical Documentation, Support and Test Equipment and obsolescence management sections of the standard, and changes to Part 3 which include references to the full suite of ASD ILS standards and new annexes containing the ILS product descriptions. Strategy, Operations and Leadership – the view from Strategic Command General Sir Patrick Sanders, Commander UK Strategic Command, and Professor Paul Cornish, Chief Strategist Cityforum, recently discussed the topic of “Designing and equipping UK Armed Forces for an uncertain international security environment”. The podcast, which includes comment from Mr Julian Cracknell, Managing Director of BAE Systems Applied Intelligence, is now available to listen on YouTube here or via the Cityforum website here.
