SUMMARY:Battlefield Energy and Electrification Options Workshop – an FCG Open Innovation Laboratories Event
DESCRIPTION:UTAC Millbrook Proving Ground\, 4 July 23  \nPresentations from the day: \n1. TD6 Benefits and Challenges \n2. Future Energy Trial Battlefield Energy \n3. MoD – Millbrook Energy Security & Nett Zero – Case for Nuclear H2 \n4. Battlefield Electrification \n  \nBackground: The modern soldier is increasingly more digitised and equipped with drones\, sensors\, electronic countermeasures\, robotics and comms\, with no indication that this trend will decrease. As the Expeditionary Robotics Centre of Expertise (ERCoE) continues to develop solutions they are starting to consider how these systems will be powered. Facing increase energy cost and limited access to precious metals powering the future battlefield is areal challenge. \nChallenge: Hybridisation\, electrification and battery storage all offer some advantages\, but they are not without trade-off for weight\, recharge times and operating duration. Maintaining operational advantage over our adversaries\, force elements need to be light\, agile and able to operate for prolonged periods of time without resupply; Carrying half your body weight in batteries is not an option. \nOpportunity: Driven by climate change and enabled by advances in technology other sectors are undertaking energy transitions and Defence must capitalising on this wider sector investment. \nPurpose: In the context of the Defence Operational Energy Strategy this event will look at dual purpose energy solution from across sectors identifying options with potential to address the energy challenges of the land domain. \nAgenda: With speakers invited from Industry\, Army\, Future Capability Group\, Defence Support Energy & Futures and Innovation the agenda is still under development and will be confirmed in the next few weeks. \nFormat: This is a physical in person event only with no option to dial in.  Where permission is granted presentation material will be made available post event. \nAttire: Dress is business casual or uniform\, as this is a working environment please wear flat sensible shoes\, no heels. \nRefreshments: Light lunch and refreshments will be provided \nCost: The event is free to attend. \nRegister to Attend: Tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis and if over subscribed may be limited to one person per company. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Click here to register

SUMMARY:DI23 - AI Expert Group Workshop
DESCRIPTION:AI Expert Group Workshop – Day 2\, 13:30 – 16:00 \nArtificial intelligence is occupying an increasing volume of our daily news copy and has become one of\, if not the most talked about topics today. We’ve just heard how an AI project’s ‘highly unexpected strategies to achieve its goal’ may have simulated an attack on its operator\, once it appeared that the programmed mission was at-risk. We also learned last month that a major UK tech company was planning to employ AI to replace over 40% of its workforce by the end of the decade. \nNot many days pass between highly credible AI mavens propounding terrifying outcomes as a consequence of their lives’ work – and their regret at placing the planet in such jeopardy. Conversely\, the opportunity to improve\, speed up\, or simplify every digitizable job appears to be very attractive. But at what cost? \nThe recent DAIC Production Model and Assurance project garnered some of the UK’s leading AI professionals many of whom – under the working title of the AI Expert Group – will be present throughout DI’23. Sharing their experience and expertise at the conference – along with a snapshot of some of their impressive AI businesses portfolios – come along to meet and discuss your views with renowned experts. Disaster-in-waiting or unimaginable boon? And what should we all be doing about it? Find out at DI’23. \nFor further details\, please contact Tony Butler – tony.butler@teamdefence.info \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nRegister here

SUMMARY:MOD IPS Transition Working Group
DESCRIPTION:This sub working group is open to all interested parties that would like the opportunity to assist the Ministry of Defence transition to IPS and the ASD S-Series. There will be some complicated issues to discuss and resolve that would not likely be possible without the collective mindset and experience from the members of TDI. This sub working group will be held on a regular basis and will be fundamental to the MOD transition from ILS to IPS by September 2024. However this will not be a talking shop for any perceived issues or wished technical amendments to the ASD S-Series\, its focus is solely on MOD adoption. Ryan Griffin (MOD IPS Transition Project Manager) and Mark Willis (CDS Defence & Security) will be the respective MOD and industry chairs. \nPlease contact Leyton Lark for further information. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nRegister here
