Battlefield Electrification \n  \nBackground: The modern soldier is increasingly more digitised and equipped with drones\, sensors\, electronic countermeasures\, robotics and comms\, with no indication that this trend will decrease. As the Expeditionary Robotics Centre of Expertise (ERCoE) continues to develop solutions they are starting to consider how these systems will be powered. Facing increase energy cost and limited access to precious metals powering the future battlefield is areal challenge. \nChallenge: Hybridisation\, electrification and battery storage all offer some advantages\, but they are not without trade-off for weight\, recharge times and operating duration. Maintaining operational advantage over our adversaries\, force elements need to be light\, agile and able to operate for prolonged periods of time without resupply; Carrying half your body weight in batteries is not an option. \nOpportunity: Driven by climate change and enabled by advances in technology other sectors are undertaking energy transitions and Defence must capitalising on this wider sector investment. \nPurpose: In the context of the Defence Operational Energy Strategy this event will look at dual purpose energy solution from across sectors identifying options with potential to address the energy challenges of the land domain. \nAgenda: With speakers invited from Industry\, Army\, Future Capability Group\, Defence Support Energy & Futures and Innovation the agenda is still under development and will be confirmed in the next few weeks. \nFormat: This is a physical in person event only with no option to dial in.  Where permission is granted presentation material will be made available post event. \nAttire: Dress is business casual or uniform\, as this is a working environment please wear flat sensible shoes\, no heels. \nRefreshments: Light lunch and refreshments will be provided \nCost: The event is free to attend. \nRegister to Attend: Tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis and if over subscribed may be limited to one person per company. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				Click here to register

SUMMARY:Digital Response to DSIS
DESCRIPTION:In March 2021\, the government published its Defence & Security Industrial Strategy (DSIS)\, which aims to develop a new relationship industry. The DSIS describes nineteen segments and made a commitment to developing individual responses to these segment areas where it was meaningful to do so. The ‘Digital Backbone’ segment is one of those segments.  \nDefence Digital has been looking at a Digital Response to the Defence and Security Industrial Strategy (DSIS) as part of its Digital Transformation programme and the initial work provided valuable information into a health of the defence supplier base assessment undertaken by the DSIS team. With the publication of the Defence Command Paper Refresh 2023\, the work has been re-invigorated. This time\, the DSIS Cyber Segment will be included\, in addition to the Digital Backbone Segment. \nStakeholder engagement within the MOD is currently being undertaken with the aim of having draft recommendations that can be tested during DSEi23 (12-15 Sep 23). This is an opportunity for members of Team Defence Information to have early sight of the draft and submit comments if they wish. SUMMARY:Joint Professional Development Working Group Relaunch
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce the relaunch of the Team Defence Joint Professional Development Group\, (JPDWG). Over many years this group has been a forum for developing a common MOD and Industry approach to defining what is meant by “Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel”\, (SQEP)\, in particular for developing and managing support solutions for Defence capabilities. \nIn the past the group has developed role profiles for Support Engineering\, Supply Chain Management and Integrated Logistics Support Management. It has always sought to gain National and International recognition for the professional skills people working in Support deserve. \nThe people and skills agenda has always been important but perhaps never more so than today. This has been recognised by the Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff\, Support Operations\, (ACDS SupOps) who has been working on a Pan Defence Skills Framework and a “workforce plan”. It is recognised that for this work to be successful it cannot be achieved by MOD alone. \nWith this in mind the Deputy Head of People in Support\, Dick Dixon\, is now keen to engage Industry in this work. Dick and his team are ideally placed to cohere the professional development policy and practice for Support across the MOD.  This also extends out across government and the need to cohere skills in the logistics sector\, whilst looking to make it an attractive proposition and raise the sector’s profile. \nWe are also delighted to announce that Ian Smith from Allen Webb has agreed to become the Industry co-chair for the group. Dick and Ian would welcome your involvement in the group. A meeting to relaunch the group will be held in the TD-Info offices on 19th September 2023. SUMMARY:Digital Twin Community of Practice – Flares Investigation Tasks
DESCRIPTION:What this is – This a new TD-info\, industry\, and MOD collaboration project to define and demonstrate the viability of Digital Twin benefits for MOD countermeasures (Flares). \nWhy? – The field of Digital Twins as a whole hold’s incredible possibilities within the entire Defence landscape. In the case of air countermeasures – specifically flares – the ability for them to provide a decoy is a well-established concept and has been in service in the RAF since the 1960s with the Vulcan bomber. Not only is it relevant for today as a countermeasure\, but it will also be relevant for the foreseeable future. Digital simulations and representations of flares systems have the potential to provide the MOD with an improved design\, test\, evaluation and through life support capability for its countermeasure assets.
