SUMMARY:Critical Raw Materials for Defence: Online Snack Series - Session 3
DESCRIPTION:The recent Critical Raw Materials for Defence Report we published\, outlines a proposed framework for enhancing Critical Raw Materials resilience in the UK Defence sector through circular economy principles and recycling. Our aim was to contribute to the development of the UK’s industrial strategy and ensure Defence has a strong voice in this important area. As the financial settlement process moves forward\, we’re keen to keep the conversation active. \nJoin us for the Snack Series—a rapid-fire set of expert-led sessions that dive into the most urgent challenges and strategic opportunities across the UK’s critical materials ecosystem. \nFrom policy to platforms\, e-waste to innovation funding\, this series brings together voices across government\, industry\, and academia to shape a more circular\, resilient\, and sovereign defence future. \nWhy Attend?• Get insights into policy\, innovation\, and supply chain resilience• Hear from leaders shaping the future of defence and critical materials• Connect across disciplines—from recyclers and researchers to strategists and policymakers \nEach session features a 20-minute presentation from leading organisations\, followed by a 40-minute panel Q&A. Sessions will explore:• Global supply chain risks• UK capability and innovation• Priority Defence use cases \nContent will focus on real insights and lessons—not sales pitches—with case studies encouraged. SUMMARY:Expression of Interest - Land Autonomous Collaborative Platform Industry Day
DESCRIPTION:Expression of Interest will close 1159 on 11th August\nIntroduction\nThe British Army is pleased to invite you to apply to participate in the Land Autonomous Collaborative Platform (LACP) industry workshops\, which will take place on 21 August 2025 at the Defence BattleLab Dorset. This in-person only collaborative event reinforces Defence’s transformative relationship with industry to support the Army’s modernisation efforts. This Army event is a progression on the National Armaments Director Group engagement (13-14 Aug 25) and will focus specifically on the LACP problem set.\n The ‘Problem’ \nThe British Army seeks to develop an Uncrewed Air System (UAS) to pair with the Apache AH-64E attack helicopter as an ACP. The ACP will operate in a highly autonomous\, ‘commanded not controlled’ manner to perform multi-mission tasks in contested battlespace\, including reconnaissance\, target acquisition\, strike\, countermeasure defeat\, and integration with Launched Effects (LE). The ACP will enhance the lethality and survivability of the crewed platform and do so with a smaller logistic footprint and lower maintenance requirement relative to the crewed platform. \nFocus areas\nThese workshops are a key opportunity for Defence stakeholders to engage with industry partners to explore innovative and novel solutions that leverage advancements in autonomy\, modularity\, and manufacturing scalability. The Army is seeking to develop understanding of technology readiness and industrial capability to inform the User Requirements. Areas of interest include\, but are not limited to:\n\nUncrewed Air Systems (UAS) – A system including the platform\, the supporting network and equipment. A Vertical Take-off and Landing (VToL) UAS able to carry c.200kg+ payloads are most likely to satisfy the operational use case.\nAutonomous systems – Solutions that enable varying levels of autonomy\, or the fully autonomous command and control of UAS. Transversal capabilities such as AI-based decision making\, digital twins\, synthetic environment\, digital\, data and security standards.\nCertification and regulation – working with civilian and military regulators to navigate regulatory challenges and support industries to test and evaluate platforms.\nSystem integration – the challenges of integrating a system of systems and the adoption of modularity.\nModular payloads.\nOther Defence Lines of Development (DLoDs) considerations to include safety\, communications\, cyber\, navigation\, interoperability.\n\nIndustry Engagement Approach\nConduct of the day will be a collaborative endeavour with United Kingdom Defence Innovation (UKDI)\, Defence & Security Accelerator (DASA)\, Futures Lab and Dstl supported by Team Defence Information. The event will be hosted at the Defence BattleLab where military challenges intersect with industry solutions. To cohere the day’s interaction\, three core workshops are planned with additional scope to accommodate emergent topics through the day.\nWorkshop 1 – Platforms – the Uncrewed Air System (UAS)\nWorkshop 2 – Autonomy solutions\nWorkshop 3 – Integration\, comms and navigation systems.\nPlease note: There are physical restraints on the numbers of participants so do not delay in registering your interest\, successful attendees will be notified on 12th August \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nExpression of Interest

SUMMARY:MOD DUxDA (Defence UxS ((Uncrewed ‘x’ systems)) Design Authority): Face-to Face Industry Early Engagement Event - Expression of Interest
DESCRIPTION:A new Team Defence-info supported MOD DUxDA face-to-face industry early engagement event has now been announced. \nPlease note: Expressions of interest must be submitted by close of play 11th March \nBackground – The UK Defence Drone Strategy 2024 \nhttps://www.gov.uk/government/publications/defence-drone-strategy-the-uks-approach-to-defence-uncrewed-systems set the vision for the UK to be world – leading in uncrewed Defence systems. The approach to achieving this is through unparalleled collaboration and bold innovation built around four key objectives: \n\nExpedite acquisition reform\nBuild a resilient industrial base\nDefine digital architectures for seamless integration\nFoster a new culture of innovation\n\nThis strategy identified the need for a Defence-level governance mechanism to support pan-domain delivery plans of the Royal Navy\, Army and Royal Airforce (incl Space). To support the strategy in the delivery of its vision the Defence UxS Design Authority (DUxDA) was established in Apr 24. \nWho are DUxDA and what do they do? – They sit within Strategic Command with pan-Defence responsibility\, core within these responsibilities is to… \n\nCohere\nCollaborate\nCo-ordination\n\nDUxDA provides improved co-ordination and coherence of MOD Uncrewed Systems activity to promote both value for money and improved Uncrewed capability across the entire Defence Enterprise (Air\, Ground\, On Water\, Under Water\, Space). \nAs a Design Authority it is a standalone\, integrated highly experienced team responsible for maintaining the integrity of programme objectives and alignment of solutions (designs) to programme level requirements through the effective implementation of collaborative assurance and guidance. The agile services structure can be adapted and tailored for any programme design and delivers the following within the Uncrewed area. \n\nStandalone Design Authority service or integrated within existing Teams\nFlexibility to advise at all levels architectural and design areas\nFull cross-function\, collaborative\, embedded transformation lifecycle design assurance\nOperates as a trusted advisor for and appropriate MOD programme\nHas ownership of Programme architecture (business\, processes\, applications\, technology\, data)\nTransformation and transition roadmap definition\, creation and delivery\nDeliver support across large-scale dynamic systems integration programmes\nDrive multiple improvement initiatives to de-risk the programme\nAbility to provide architecture and programme leadership and direction.\n\n The DUxDA industry engagement event activity asks?  – The DUxDA will present the progress made and outputs delivered since forming Apr 24 and detail the strategy and key delivery milestones for the Defence UxS portfolio for the next 12 months. Industry engagement\, feedback and support is critical to the successful delivery of the DUxDA strategy and key delivery milestones\, and this face-to-face event will be the first of a series of events being planned through FY25/26 ultimately aimed at creating a one team structure between Defence and Industry to deliver the future capability road maps across Defence. \nShould you get involved? – If your organisation is involved in the development and delivery of Uncrewed Systems to Defence you are encouraged to attend. \nWhy get involved? – Your contribution will enable you to understand the direction of travel from within Defence\, shape\, influence and assist MOD in its future direction for Uncrewed Systems. \nThere is also the opportunity to work as part of a team with equally capable and knowledgeable organisations within Defence and the wider Uncrewed Systems community. \nThis is an opening for wider industry experience and best practice to be showcased within the Defence environment. \nThis will enable: \n\nUnderstanding of how focus areas will interact to realise a future end state.\nArticulation of requirements for Uncrewed Systems capability across the enterprise.\nDevelopment of capability roadmaps\nAlignment\, pull through and learning from representative Uncrewed Systems capabilities.\nAssessment of potential system solutions and recommendations for future development.\n\nIf you would like to attend please complete the expression of interest form\, this will close on 11th March.

SUMMARY:Modelling Towards Self Sufficiency - a Sustainable Defence Support Working Group
DESCRIPTION:Concept \nIntegrating advanced sustainable technologies\, technical insight and industry knowledge on Military Operations has the potential to reduce logistic burden\, extend the time a force can operate without resupply and reduce operating costs.  This will increase supply chain resilience\, give Commanders’ freedom to operate and help create operational advantage over our adversaries. It may even reduce or mitigate the climate impact of military operations. \nOutline of Activities \nDefence Support released their Toward Self Sufficiency Concept Note in November 2023. It outlines a number of hypotheses for how a self-sufficient approach to military operations could deliver operational advantage\, and identifies areas for innovation\, research and experimentation.  Defence Support are now investigating how digital modelling can be used to consistently and repeatably contextualise how new technologies perform in simulated military environments. Understanding the benefits of a novel\, sustainable technology in the context of military operations will help assess the opportunities and inform early capability investment decisions. \nAt this event we will hear from academia\, Defence organisations and others about their prioritisation of low carbon and self-sustaining solutions along with the tools and information they use to inform and prioritise their investments. \nThe current thinking about the Toward Self Sufficiency model will then be shared and this will be followed by a workshop where your input will help inform the next stages of development. \nYour Input \nIn the afternoon workshops\, Defence Support invite you to challenge their modelling assumptions\, suggest how wider modelling practice could be utilised\, identify how benefits\, service levels and KPIs could be measured and promote how your innovative water\, waste\, energy\, material solutions could be modelled. \nOutcome \nThe workshop will assist the scoping and development of the Towards Self Sufficiency model development so that it will be more effective at assessing technologies that will lead to more self sufficient and sustained operations. \nWho Should attend \nProviders of deployable base infrastructure\, utilities and innovators in material\, food\, waste\, water\, energy and circular economics along with lifecycle modellers who can help understaffs what could\, should and must (& must not) be measured as part of a self-sufficiency modelling tool.  We also need to understand enablers that will enable support data capture\, connectivity\, processing\, and performance management. \nRegister to Attend \nThe event is free to attend.  There will be limited in person attendance with wider online participation. In person tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis and limited to one person per company.  \nDress \nSmart casual or uniform as applicable \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Click here to register\n \n Agenda\n \n Towards Self Sufficiency - Concept Note
