DESCRIPTION:​Andy joined the UK Ministry of Defence from his role as CEO of Capita Public Service\, one of the largest strategic suppliers to UK government. Trained as an engineer\, he spent the first decade of his career as a designer and programme manager in the space business; later moving into organisations such as Airbus\, BAE Systems and Harris Tactical Radio. \nAs the interim National Armaments Director (NAD)\, a position created as part of Defence Reform\, Andy established the National Armaments Director Group\, bringing together the teams responsible for developing\, delivering sustaining\, housing and harbouring the UK’s ‘national arsenal’ and defence estate. Using his experience as DE&S CEO\, Andy’s role ensured a smooth stand-up of the group whilst recruitment for the permanent appointment took place. SUMMARY:TD-Info Talks - In Conversation with Paul Livingstone CBE
DESCRIPTION:​Paul Livingston was appointed Chief Executive & Chair\, Lockheed Martin UK\, in April 2021 – he is responsible for all operations of Lockheed Martin UK and it’s subsidiaries\, in October 2024 he was additionally appointed as the Senior Executive for NATO within Lockheed Martin. \nPaul began his career as an engineering apprentice working in simulation and has since spent more than thirty-eight years in the defence sector. Since joining Lockheed Martin in 2001\, Paul has held a number of executive roles across the global corporation in the UK\, the Netherlands\, Brazil and South Korea.  He has also served as Managing Director of Ascent\, a 50/50 joint venture with Babcock International delivering the UK’s Military Flying Training System. \nPaul serves His Majesty’s Government as a Member of the Defence Industrial Joint Council and on the MOD’s “Raising Our Standards” External Challenge Panel.  He has previously been a member of the United Kingdom Investment Council and the Defence Suppliers Forum Executive Board.  He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a Strategic Advisor to the Women in Defence organisation. \nIn the June 2025 King’s Birthday Honours List\, Paul was appointed an Ordinary Commander of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for Services to the Defence Industry. \nPaul is a Non-Executive Director of Thames Freeport. \nJoin us on the 17th February at 12:00 for a discussion on the Defence landscape\, its future and career navigation! \n17th February 2026\, 12:00-13:00 \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\nRegister here

DESCRIPTION:The JPDWG has held 2 meetings to establish the scope and activity to deliver against developing a Skills Framework for Support. \nAddresses are requested by 13th Dec to: \n\nprovide their agreement to the terms of reference for the Working Group\nallocate resource for the Working Groups to deliver against the plan of work set out in the terms of reference\nshare their own skills frameworks to the group for comparison and development.\n\nThe timeline for activity is below and is challenging\, but it is expected that for most areas there will be existing frameworks that can be used for comparison and agreement making the ask less onerous.  Ideally the members of the sub working group should be subject matter experts or people who develop / maintain these skills frameworks as part of their normal day job. \nTimeline \n\nA common taxonomy describing all the roles (by end mid Jan 24).\nA definition of the knowledge\, skills\, experience\, and behaviours required for each role for up to seven proficiency levels (Awareness\, Foundation\, Working\, Practitioner\, Experienced practitioner\, Expert\, Strategist) (by end March 24).\nA definition of the development pathways to move between the skill levels\, highlighting accreditation and training routes aligned with Industry and professional standards (by end March 24).\nA definition of career pathways to show how to progress and build capability (by June 24).\nA definition of knowledge\, skills\, experience\, and behaviours needed for the future. (tbd)\nA risk register highlighting skills shortages now and predicted for next 5 years. (ongoing)\nA communications plan targeted at different stakeholder groups for highlighting the skills profiles and development opportunities (by Feb 24).\nA maintenance plan for all artefacts to remain current (by end Feb 24).\nTo develop and deliver an outreach programme for schools to attract leavers to the sector. (commence Jan 24 onwards).\n\nThe activity will be broken down into disciplines to form sub working groups\, the current working assumption is the following groups will be established subject to agreement and change: \n\nMaterial Accounting: All roles whose primary function is associated with developing\, implementing and maintaining material accounting policy for inventory.\n\n\nDriving: All roles involved in driving & operating of vehicles of all types\n\n\nTTLS / ILS / IPS: roles providing advice on the delivery of integrated logistic strategic planning and support arrangements. These include planning\, delivery and operation of in-service support\, equipment modification\, understanding repair procedures and resolution of design and maintenance issues.\n\n\nPostal and Courier: roles involved in receipt\, sort and despatch of mail\, handling of special delivery\, postal courier and escorting mail. Assessment of delivery costs and post office counter sales.\n\n\nSupply Chain Management / Inventory Management: roles involved in the provision of logistic services to meet specialist equipment needs\, including introduction of In-Service support\, equipment modifications equipment safety\, understanding of repair procedures.\n\n\nTransportation and Movement: roles involved in the provision of transport and movement services including planning\, coordination\, management of physical driving/operating equipment.\n\n\nWarehouse Ops / Storekeepers: roles involved in the warehousing function\, including Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) operations\, packaging\, receipts\, returns and issues\, storekeeping\, stocktaking\, storage and distribution.\n\n\nEnergy – to be defined.\n\nThese groups will be formally established on 15th Dec at the next meeting and will require resource assigned to each group to test viability for development and refinement of timeline. \nPlease contact Leyton Lark for further information. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\nRegister here\n\n\n\n\n\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\nTerms of reference

SUMMARY:Joint Professional Development Working Group Relaunch
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce the relaunch of the Team Defence Joint Professional Development Group\, (JPDWG). Over many years this group has been a forum for developing a common MOD and Industry approach to defining what is meant by “Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel”\, (SQEP)\, in particular for developing and managing support solutions for Defence capabilities. \nIn the past the group has developed role profiles for Support Engineering\, Supply Chain Management and Integrated Logistics Support Management. It has always sought to gain National and International recognition for the professional skills people working in Support deserve. \nThe people and skills agenda has always been important but perhaps never more so than today. This has been recognised by the Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff\, Support Operations\, (ACDS SupOps) who has been working on a Pan Defence Skills Framework and a “workforce plan”. It is recognised that for this work to be successful it cannot be achieved by MOD alone. \nWith this in mind the Deputy Head of People in Support\, Dick Dixon\, is now keen to engage Industry in this work. Dick and his team are ideally placed to cohere the professional development policy and practice for Support across the MOD.  This also extends out across government and the need to cohere skills in the logistics sector\, whilst looking to make it an attractive proposition and raise the sector’s profile. \nWe are also delighted to announce that Ian Smith from Allen Webb has agreed to become the Industry co-chair for the group. Dick and Ian would welcome your involvement in the group. A meeting to relaunch the group will be held in the TD-Info offices on 19th September 2023. DESCRIPTION:AI Expert Group Workshop – Day 2\, 13:30 – 16:00 \nArtificial intelligence is occupying an increasing volume of our daily news copy and has become one of\, if not the most talked about topics today. We’ve just heard how an AI project’s ‘highly unexpected strategies to achieve its goal’ may have simulated an attack on its operator\, once it appeared that the programmed mission was at-risk. We also learned last month that a major UK tech company was planning to employ AI to replace over 40% of its workforce by the end of the decade. \nNot many days pass between highly credible AI mavens propounding terrifying outcomes as a consequence of their lives’ work – and their regret at placing the planet in such jeopardy. Conversely\, the opportunity to improve\, speed up\, or simplify every digitizable job appears to be very attractive.
