Non TD-Info Event - Bridging the Concept to Capability Gap Symposium 2018
Wednesday 21st - Thursday 22nd February 2018
Location : Alexandra House Hotel, Wroughton Swindon
Time : 10:00 to 17:00
Overview
In conjunction with the Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre (DCDC) and industry, Symposia at Shrivenham is running a new event at Alexandra House Hotel to examine the challenges of turning concepts into capability. Set in the context of calls for greater ‘agility’ and ‘innovation’, it is also set in the specific context of the need for more rapid capability insertion in a Future Operating Environment characterised by complexity, instability, uncertainty and pervasive information. The event is scheduled over 21-22 February 2018 and will fuse issues of concept and capability development, innovation and acquisition.
Theme
The aim of the event is to examine defence and other models for concept to capability development in order to identify best practice that might be adopted.
Format
Brigadier Darrel Amison CBE, Head of Concepts DCDC, will open the event on Day 1 with his keynote. US and industry colleagues will then present on their own perspectives. To broaden the discussion the symposium will include: lessons from F1 motorsport; ‘insights from startups, disruptors, innovators and companies driving change’; and FLO Group with an SME’s view. The Second Sea Lord, Vice Admiral Jonathan Woodcock OBE, will close the day with his keynote.
On Day 2 we will open with a look at an adversaries perspective before considering four case studies: PA Consulting on ‘The Whole Force Approach’; SAP on ‘Design Thinking ‘ and COTS; MOD BATCIS on Project MORPHEUS; and Nova Systems on Meeting the Test and Evaluation Challenge. Through workshops and a plenary the symposium will look to identify key insights for improving future concept to capability development. The event will conclude with a further keynote addresses.
There is much opportunity for networking, including an evening dinner event at the STEAM railway museum.
