EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect as legislation in the UK and across Europe on 25 May 2018. The countdown to prepare for this is happening and this joint briefing from techUK, ADS and TD Info is an opportunity to learn more about and discuss the implications of EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for the UK defence sector.
The GDPR, which represents the most significant reform of data protection laws for twenty years, will have implications for organisations across all sectors that collect and process personal data. Attendees at this event will discuss what steps all UK organisations should be taking in preparation for May 2018 to ensure compliance.
At a time when the Data Protection Bill, which is a key part of the UK’s GDPR implementation, is moving through the House of Lords, the broader data protection landscape and particularly key implications for the defence sector will also be on the agenda.
These key developments in the regulatory framework coupled with the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, make this a good time to discuss how the defence sector deals with data protection in comparison with other sectors; what specific challenges it faces and the potential opportunities for the sector offered by the UK Government pursuing a world leading data framework.
The agenda will include:
- Welcome & Introduction
- GDPR Context: key challenges and best practice
- A Defence Sector Perspective
- An SME Perspective
- Q&A | Good Sources of GDPR Info | Key Takeaways
Speakers to include:
Jeremy Lilley, Programme Manager, Cloud, Big Data & Intellectual Property, techUK
Allen Woods, Chief Executive Officer, The Performance Organisers
The Q&A panel session included Sandra Gardiner,
ISS Information Rights Team Leader who represents the MOD on GDPR
